Lake Murray Is Lowered: A Temporary Window to Clean Up Your Shoreline
For a limited time each year, Lake Murray is lowered and the shoreline that stays underwater the rest of the year is finally exposed. While the water is down, there is a temporary window to get onto your shoreline and clean up everything that is normally out of reach. Once the lake fills back in, that window closes and it all goes back underwater.
A Temporary Window, Not a Standing One
This only happens while the water is down. During this stretch, the ground along your water line is reachable and the shoreline can be cleared and cleaned up. As soon as the lake starts rising again, the debris, the fallen trees, and everything else along the bank is back underwater and much harder and more expensive to deal with. If you have been meaning to get your shoreline handled, this is the time, and it does not last.
What Can Be Cleaned Up While the Water Is Down
This is the window to deal with the stuff that piles up along the water line:
Fallen trees, big limbs, and stumps that have come down along the bank
Storm debris and washed-up brush
Old dock material and junk that has collected at the shoreline
Loose brush and debris that has collected along the water line
We have the equipment to pull heavy fallen trees off the bank, cut them up, and haul the whole mess away, and to clear the debris and junk so your shoreline is clean and open before the water comes back.
If the rest of your lot is overgrown too, we can take care of it in the same visit with forestry mulching or bush hogging.
Why Get It Done Now
Beyond just looking better, a cleaned-up shoreline protects your property when the water returns. Debris left behind can wash onto neighboring shorelines, clog pump and irrigation intakes, and break down in the water in ways that hurt the lake. Clearing it while the ground is exposed is the easy, smart way to handle it, and the window to do it is open right now.

Clearing debris, fallen trees, and junk off the shoreline is generally allowed while the lake is down. Dredging or removing built-up sediment is different and does require a permit. We handle permitted dredging and sediment removal as well, done to Dominion Energy specifications.
